Starting in June 2025, Artists Image Resource is reinventing its old “Open Studio” community access framework with a few modifications from the old “wide open walk in and make stuff” dynamic that was shut down by the pandemic.
HOW IT WORKS
Schedule time on Friday evenings between 5:00 and 8:00 pm and we will waive all facilities and supply fees for the summer.
You schedule time and send an image a week in advance; we expose your image on to a studio screen and get you set up to print.
You pay for the film and the exposure ($30), and we let you use the screen for the night with no other rental or supply fees.
The equipment and supplies provided include print stations, squeegees and spatulas, registration tape, paper towel, soap, clean up supplies, access to a small conveyor dryer and minimal proofing paper (but we ask that you bring your own).
You pay for any consumable materials (ink and paper) that you need. You can bring your own materials and/or if you order in advance, we may be able to provide ink, paper and other substrates dependent on inventories.
SCHEDULING AND PARTICIPANTS
All scheduling happens through the info@artistsimageresource.org email account. Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you in the studio.
We need to know how many people will be coming with you, we need to know that you are capable of printing, and we need to know that you will be safe with all materials to be used. You need to be out of the building by 8:00 pm or whatever scheduled time is listed.
DETAILS AND DISCLAIMERS
Images up to 12 x 18 can be facilitated with this offer, Larger images can be organized if arrangements are made in advance (fees apply).
This offer cannot accommodate cleaning or coating or exposing client screens, but arrangements may be made by request (fees apply).
This is not a teaching environment and though we will provide oversite and some level of support, we expect that you know what you’re doing and that you will respect the studio and all individuals in it.
The studio does not allow any plastisol inks and do not have a carousel press or tight registration systems for t-shirt or fabric printing.
We will have an AIR crew on site to facilitate filmmaking, screen exposures and printing set ups. You will use studio screens for the evening and then they will be returned to AIR’s inventory.
You will not be able to coat or clean or use your own screens (unless you make specific arrangements to do so). AIR crew will NOT be printing for you and though this is designed to be a community learning space this Friday Open Studio is not a “teaching” environment per se.
If you are interested in learning how to screen print, you can book a tutorial.
