PRINTWORK 2022 represents a variety of approaches to contemporary printmaking practices while drawing upon the historical lineage of print. Co-jurying an exhibition created challenges and opportunities. While we were drawn to different individual pieces and aesthetics, it was easy to come to an agreement around which work represented the range of processes and ideas that contemporary printmaking represents.
Artists Image Resource (AIR) has been supporting and challenging artist practices since 1996. PRINTWORK was always seen as an opportunity to make the best of contemporary printmaking visible to a large audience in the Pittsburgh region. Since the first exhibition in 2012, PRINTWORK has been a transformative addition to AIR’s mission.
We’ve been involved with AIR in various ways for some time. We have been on the Board and have organized previous PRINTWORK exhibitions. Because of this history, it was important for us to pull together work that is indicative of everything we stand for as an organization. That meant looking for the outsider printmaker, choosing prints that represented academic level processes, and finding conceptual narratives that made us absolutely excited to keep clicking through to see more images. Joseph Lupo
Lupo is currently a Professor of Art at West Virginia University. He received his BFA from Bradley University and his MFA from the University of Georgia. His work has been a part of over 80 different solo and group exhibitions and has been featured at the International Print Center of New York, The Contemporary Art Workshop in Chicago, the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, the Indianapolis Art Center, and The Contemporary Art Center in Atlanta. Joseph’s work is included in various permanent collections including the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Duke University, the Denver Art Museum, the Museum of Texas Tech University, the Spencer Museum of Art, and the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum. Joseph served on the Executive Board of SGC International from 2006-2012, and served as the president from 2008-2010. He has received multiple awards and grants for his work as an academic including the “Honorary Member of the Council” award from SGCI (2014), “BIG XII Faculty Fellowship” (2013), “WVU Senate Research Grant” (2008 and 2009), “Excellence in Teaching” (2015), “Excellence in Service” (2014) and “Excellence in Research” (2013) awards from the WVU College of Creative Arts.

Rachel Saul Rearick
Rearick has demonstrated a commitment to creating inclusive spaces in the arts over her career, building public/private partnerships and leveraging support for the advancement of artists and the field of craft. She recently joined Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh as Executive Director and is responsible for leading the organization towards strategic goals in its new permanent facility.
Previously, Rearick served as the Arts and Culture Manager for Allegheny County Airport Authority, where she managed Art in the Airport, the PIT Performing Arts Series, and the Sense of Place program. She sits on the board of Artists Image Resource, the Advisory Committee for the Office of Public Art, and the Art Advisory Committee of the Sports and Exhibition Authority. In addition, she is an active artist member of both the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Print Group. Rachel holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Gannon University and a BFA from Edinboro University.

KATE COLLYER
Kate Collyer is originally from Buffalo, New York and now lives and works in the Hudson Valley. With a focus on landscape, pathways, and wayfaring she explores the historical bond that we have created with the landscape. She hopes that viewers can empathize with the sites she reveals in her art, spurring stewardship. Her goal is to create prints within a variety of mediums and techniques to expand the definition of what a print can be. Her work gives viewers the opportunity to interpret and reimagine, drawing insight from these recollections of place.

SPIRALBOUNDSpiralbound.design–the most recent incarnation of a long-term collaboration between Jeremy Boyle and Mark Franchino–is the result of more than two decades of creative work and the accumulated collection of skills and experience. Through these years of creative endeavors in art, music, and design, we have developed, acquired and fostered a unique set of skills and have continually invested in the tools, equipment and materials needed to be able to make what’s been imagined.
STEFAN HOFFMANN
Mr. Hoffmann uses screenprinting to create site specific projects which re-contextualize information graphics. His projects create perturbations in the way we perceive our visual environment. The work engages fully in the architectural situations and specific contexts encountered. The result is a visual answer to the situation.
